Illustrating & Writing for Edible Vancouver Island 2022 & 2025

I've been very honoured to illustrate and write for Edible Vancouver Island the past few years. These projects blend together my passion for art, food and hospitality and challenge me to create work that can be used in both digital and print applications.

Holiday Culinary Traditions around the World (Holiday 2022), Edible Reno (Winter 2024) & Edible Dallas Forth Worth (Winter 2024)

I’m so happy with how these illustrations look printed in the “Holiday Culinary Traditions Around the World” article. A huge thanks to Selena Chau] for letting me do a little bit of work on this on our Iceland trip! We spent the night in Skagafjörður and had ambitious plans that morning to hit the hostel’s hot tub at 7 am before hitting the road, but when we woke up there was the biggest storm! It looked like the trees were being blown completely sideways! I was pretty happy to spend a little extra time in bed doing some lettering for this article instead of braving the storm. I'll always remember loosing track of time and then rushing to catch the last ten minutes of the free breakfast. 🤣🙈

Melting Points: Your Edible Guide to Ice Cream (Summer 2022)

Kit Your Kitchen: An edible guide to Island kitchen stores (Design 2022)

So excited to receive the first Design Issue from @ediblevanisle in the mail! The letter from the publisher @karenelgersmamedia really resonated with me. In it, she writes “the kitchen is a place of gathering, but it’s also a place of healing” and how she spent her teenage years being welcomed into her cousins’ warm kitchen that was always ready to nourish her with chili, coffee, conversation and a game of cards.

Our family kitchen is also a place of refuge and warmth for me. There was never a day that couldn’t be bettered by my Mom’s miso soup, my Dad’s fried rice rolls (which we had for breakfast today 10/10 delicious) or a frustration I couldn’t work out kneading dough. Our kitchen is the heart of our home, it’s where we gather when we’re celebrating or where I’d run into my Mom at 2am when we’d wake up hungry and end up chatting for hours.

It is such a blessing to be able to capture our beloved kitchen to share with everyone. My favourite details in this illustration are my Mom’s kettle, my Dad’s wok and my coffee press! Make sure to pick up a copy soon! Big thanks to @danikasea for her amazing design work and @willowtreewords for her awesome writing! 🍽🥰
