Hi, I'm Sharon!

Hi! I’m Sharon Lam, an illustrator who was born in Hong Kong and is now based in Victoria, BC.

I love capturing the spirit of places that feel like home. Whether it’s a cozy cafe, a bustling pub, or a quiet park, I’m drawn to the little details that make each space special—the things that bring them to life and hold so many cherished memories.

This collection started during a really difficult time in my life. When my Mom moved into hospice care after a five-year battle with ovarian cancer, I found myself drawing as a way to bring a little piece of home to her. I wanted to capture all of our favorite places—the restaurants, coffee shops, parks, and grocery stores that were a part of our everyday lives and held so many happy memories.

During those last weeks together, I realized that our most cherished moments weren’t from grand trips, but from the familiar places in our city where our lives happened.  After my Mom passed away at the end of 2019, I kept drawing these places—and new ones too—as a way to celebrate the spirit of Victoria and the stories tied to it.

I think my love for capturing details comes from growing up in my family’s restaurant, Tombo. I watched my Mom carefully sew aprons, piece menus together, and decorate the window with trinkets she thoughtfully picked out. Now, when I draw, I try to bring that same attention to detail into every piece.

Before I became a full-time artist, I worked in hospitality and event management. I spent a few years in Ontario studying Hospitality and Tourism at the University of Guelph. I've been fortunate to of lived all over the place - in Vancouver, Kelowna, Guelph, and Innsbruck before returning to Victoria, where I live now with my two black cats, Dill and Basil! They’re full of mischief and cuddles and often keep me company while I’m drawing.

Thanks so much for stopping by to learn more about me and my art! I hope my work brings a little warmth and happiness to your day!
