Seeing my artwork hanging in this space is such a dream! I've always admired the artwork hanging at the Central Library whenever I walk by. I'm so proud to have my art hanging on these unique frames that Dad made for me!
This collection started during a really difficult time in my life. When my Mom moved into hospice care after a five-year battle with ovarian cancer, I found myself drawing as a way to bring a little piece of home to her. I wanted to capture all of our favorite places—the restaurants, coffee shops, parks, and grocery stores that were a part of our everyday lives and held so many happy memories. During those last weeks together, I realized that our most cherished moments weren’t from grand trips, but from the familiar places in our city where our lives happened.
After my Mom passed away at the end of 2019, I kept drawing these places—and new ones too—as a way to celebrate the spirit of Victoria and the stories tied to it. Growing up in our family restaurant, Tombo, gave me an eye for the little things that make a place feel special. I watched my Mom patiently rubber cementing menus together, sewing beautiful aprons, and picking out the perfect trinkets to decorate the window display. Now, when I draw, I’m eager to capture all those little touches that bring a place to life!
