Here is an illustration of View Street Social and @hermannsjazz (who just celebrated their 40th anniversary!). I really love their story - Hermann’s Jazz Club was opened by Hermann Nieweler in 1981 and quickly became a jazz institution in Victoria. Following Hermann’s passing in 2015, his three children struggled with managing the club on top of their own established careers and the future of the club was in question. Victoria’s music community rallied together and the Arts on View Society was able to fundraise enough to begin operating and managing the club! I think Hermann’s son, Stephan, sums it up perfectly when he said “That’s what’s special about Victoria, and that’s what my dad always said: people care.” (Information from a 2019 Victoria News article written by NICOLE CRESCENZI)
